In 2016, I photographed the village of Neu Listernohl in Central Germany in the Sauerland region. This was a commisioned work for the Westfallen Post; to look at structural changes in the region.
Neu Listernohl was re-built in the 1960’s after the original village (Listernohl) was flooded by a Dam construction project, to be used to feed water to the neighbouring industrial areas of the Ruhrgebiet. Where the village once was, now stands a lake. And the new village is an almost empty shell—most people choose to move away to bigger towns and cities with better employment opportunites.
