Between Two Rivers and Its Dreams

Belgrade, Serbia, 2016

This series is a part of a collection of memories, photographs and found objects from Belgrade, Serbia, that are signs of a city straddling between post-war exhaustion, an ever present socialist past and dreams of a globalised future.

It was made as a part of a group project (made in the MA Studio-Kultur und Identität at the Hfk Bremen) which resulted in a publication called “Beograd—White City”. In the publication we engage with the themes of individual and national identity, censorship, privatisation and governance in the context of a globalising city and it’s people. Our encounters speak of a country that is reorganising itself to negotiate its global image while straddling between its memories of the past and its dreams for a future at par with the world economy.
